Future through Further Education

The WBA supports the tool and die industry with regard to qualification and further education for trainees and managers on wide-ranging qualification levels for technological and organizational questions. All extra-occupational offers are based on modern methodical-didactic concepts and offer you and your colleagues a high degree of flexibility in both the academic and non-academic areas with its modular composition. It is meant for production managers and skilled workers in production as well as managers and directors of companies in the tool and die industry. A high practical relevance is guaranteed in all further education formats via applied learning games, use cases and speakers from the industry.

The WBA accepts the Education Check.


In one- or two-day seminars, the participants hear about the latest findings in science and industry and they get prepared for selected topics of future importance. The purpose of the seminars is to strengthen the competitive position employees and their companies. Therefore, a direct relevance to practical applications is of highest priority.

Registration and Information


Participants of a module attain in-detail knowledge of a relevant topic for tool and die making. A module is structured in four phases, allowing for an intensive further education approach within the addressed field.

  1. Preparation phase (4 weeks): Pre-study of basic material
  2. Attendance phase (3 days): Joint education of relevant theory
  3. Application within the company (8 weeks): Self-reliant application of theory in a practical environment
  4. Attendance phase (3 days): Joint education of relevant theory and reflection of application

There are topics related to the fields of technology, organization and personality improvement at choice. Die knowledge acquired can be applied easily to the own tool shop.

A module can be attended as a singular training or as part of the further education programs “Expert Tool Maker”, “Senior Expert Tool Maker” (non-academic) or “Master of Science Tool Manufacturing RWTH Aachen University” (academic).

RWTH Expert Tool Making

The RWTH Expert Tool Making represents an academically further education offer and enables the participants to achieve expert knowledge on different subject areas. The participants receive a targeted preparation to manage challenges in interface positions within a tool and die making company.

The further education consists of two freely selectable technological and two organizational modules as well as a project work. The participants learn about selected topics and are able to transfer their learned insights into their daily working life.


Degree: RWTH Expert Tool Making, 35 ECTS

Dauer: 15 months
Fees: 18.500 €


  • Completed vocational training in the field of tool manufacturing
  • At least 3 years of work experience

RWTH Senior Expert Tool Maker

The RWTH Senior Expert Tool Making is a 30-month academically further education for prospective leaderships, which enables the participants to create an extensive expert knowledge about numerous relevant organizational and technological areas of tool manufacturing.

Therefore, the participants have to fulfil four technological and four organizational modules. After four modules, the participants write a project thesis (comparable to the expert thesis) and finish their further education after eight modules with a senior expert thesis.

Duration: 30 months
Fees: 28.500 €

Master of Science (M.Sc.) Tool Making

The WBA and the RWTH Aachen University offer the first extra-occupational master degree, which is specifically geared to the needs of the tool and die making industry.

The master degree in tool making features a modular structure and can therefore be completed extra-occupational. The modules are complied by the sector-specific categories technology, organization and personality development. After the master graduation (M.Sc.) in tool making, the graduates receive an accredited degree of RWTH Aachen University.

Tool Manufacturing Challenge

The transformation process of traditional craftsmanship to industrial manufacture within the tool and die making industry plays a significant role to the qualification of young staff members. The WBA therefore offers in the summer of 2017 the program “Tool manufacturing challenge” to the best trainees from the 3rd year of training onwards and young professional tool and die and cutting mechanics.

The offer is directed at exceptionally talented young staff members of the tool and die making industry who get introduced to modern technologies and the organizational approach of industrial tool making by learning best-practice-solutions. The demonstration tool room of the WBA ensures a high practical orientation by demonstrating the process chain of the tooling industry with its machine resources and involvement of experienced advisors and specialists. Within human resource development this special further training offer is suitable as incentive for exceptionally good performance during apprenticeship or takeover after a successful completed apprenticeship.

The one-week program in Aachen comprises:

  • Several visits to innovative tool and die making companies
  • Practically oriented expert speeches about industrial tool making
  • Group works with specific tool manufacturing cases as challenges

  • Accommodation, catering and framework program
